We developed RiverXchange in 2007 and have grown it from two partnerships to 49 partnerships in 2013-2014. In the past seven years, we have educated over 12,000 students! Perhaps the best indicator of our success is that teachers love the program and most return year after year. Check out our assessment results in the 2012-2013 Annual Report.
The program educates students over an eight or nine month period, and provides a great professional development opportunity for teachers. There is no charge to participants. Our business model enables us to provide in-depth coordination at a very reasonable cost to sponsors. To find out more about the cost, contact us!
Sponsor and In-Kind Support
RiverXchange provides an easy way for sponsors and in-kind supporters to align their organizations with a high-impact, low cost project that is setting a new standard for outreach programming. For financial sponsors, RiverXchange meets or exceeds youth outreach requirements of many programs and permitting processes (e.g., MS4). For organizations providing guest speakers and field trip docents, we can incorporate any level of in-kind support! We also will assist with selecting an appropriate hands-on activity or field trip activity, and facilitate scheduling with motivated teachers who are likely to take advantage of other outreach programs offered by local organizations. In other words, we help organizations achieve their outreach goals by coordinating the most time consuming (and sometimes problematic) outreach components.
RiverXchange connects teachers with far more guest speakers and field trip docents than they would normally organize on their own, from organizations and field trip locations they may not have known existed. Teachers tell us time and again how much they and their students enjoy the guest speakers and field trip, and how important the networking component is. In addition, teachers gain valuable computer and technology skills, and they are provided with a unique opportunity to collaborate and network with a teacher who is located in a faraway location. These teachers are motivated! And they wouldn’t keep coming back year after year if they didn’t love our program.
